james horner於1953年4月14日生於加洲洛杉,童年期居住在英,青少年期大都在美加洲度,期他曾返回英敦求一年,他在皇家音乐学院师从著名作曲家gyngy ligeti学习作曲之後又回到加洲完成大教育,70年代,举家又迁回洛杉矶,詹姆斯在南加州大学取得了作曲学士学位,获得ucla作曲硕士学位和理作曲的博士学位之后,留校任教了两三年。在好多配工作者中,他是的院派作曲家,而受如此的音,走入影配的域,是james horner始料未及的。
完成位的james horner原本一心想事的音作,且在音院中任教,在1978年他曾表一名spectral shimmers的交曲.但在一次偶然的中,他afi ( american film institute ) 的生影作品了一些影配,他才影曲正是自己最往的作模式,因的工作不可以足自己音的作,而且完成一作品,只要天,上就可以站在交前,知道自己的作品表演起是什子,james horner情急切的性格可一般,然他的性格也著一股院派音家的固,例如他曾“宣誓”不目做配,因他不easy money作,而且以交音作的主更是他人十分持的。
70年代末,詹姆斯写了一部音乐会作品“鬼火”,几经努力,终于由印地安纳波利斯交响乐队演出一次,但它是一次失败的演出,之后就很少有乐队肯演奏他的作品,这令詹姆斯愈加厌憎学术界,不久,他干脆离开学术界,他感慨:“我永远也不愿回到学术界了,太浪费时间,太没意思,对于一个作曲家来说,这里毫无前途可言,演出是没有希望的、做作的,好容易得到一个演出机会,你得点头哈腰、求爷爷告奶奶,你并没多少排练时间,实际演出时,听众也大多都在打瞌睡。”
不久,他对音乐界的学术环境不再幻想。于是转入电影界,为美国电影学院及罗格克曼的新世界电影公司出品的一些低成本恐怖片或科幻片配乐。他于70年代进入好莱坞,80年代崭露头角。

相於近年的出色表,80年代早期的horner有十分明的人格,以在看他去的作品,我上他不十分善悍的音,然他的音不及john williams或jerry goldsmith那石破天的爆力和震撼性,但他的音中一股空唯美,深情的特色一,只是套在john williams和jerry goldsmith的配模式中,反而弄得手,乎一直到了<光役>,<真一世情>等作品,james horner才真正始可以完全他人配的模式拼除,且把人音的格加以全。
然,如果早期的james horner完全有人格是不可能的,在他二十年的配作中,他的人色彩也一直在成型著,只是相於其他同影音家如danny elfman或hans zimmer等人,他的人格在早期比不那明,但甜美暖的旋律性一直是他的音最吸引人的特色。1985年他另一部十分座的科幻影片<魔>配,然期大行其道的,是john williams悍的科幻影音格,但由於<魔>本身就是馨取向,加上horner美切的主,也成功的出另一馨人,又不失浩瀚的音格,的格也延伸到1986年的<美鼠>中,其中的主曲“somewhere out there ”更是唱不,得一座葛美音,以及得金像最佳原著歌曲的提名,在同一年,horner也首度得金像最佳原著音的提名,作品是演詹姆斯.柯隆的<形集>,第一集的<形>出自jerry goldsmith之手,因此是horner<星大怒吼>之後,再度接手jerry goldsmith的作品,管horner的表堪出色,但基本上整音格,乎完全是承goldsmith首集的音作而,而且有大量的音只能算是<星大怒吼>的翻版,原水不高,不,是james horner首次得金像青的作品.
由於<美鼠>的成功,1988年horner再度安培林的新卡通<小恐>配,是我人非常喜的作品,一年horner另一部受到目的代表作是演朗.霍的作品<>,一部配精彩的呈了影片中瑰神秘的空,士,巫,公主,精,侏儒,怪魔法,都在horner的下出栩栩如生的形象,是我人horner在80年代最好的作品之一,horner的音不常人有力的印象,但部片子中意的士主是例外,而且了造故事中那充神奇美感的,horner大量使用一些音色上十分特殊的器,使得整音格在的交型中,又成功的揉合了新世音或民族音的情?#123;,的音格可以是james horner日後作品的一大特色。
1989年,james horner以<幻成真(田)>第二度入金像,同年的<光役>也得金球提名得一座葛美音,<光役>是james horner早期的作品中,材比的,james horner在音言上有不少突破,是horner很具代表性的作品。90年以後,james horner作品的量大幅增加,作情,科幻冒,悚馨,所不包,足其在影受到的器重其全方位的展,但他的作品水落差大,尤其量高的90年代初期,有令人印象十分深刻的佳作,加上他常在不同的影片中,放入完全“一模一”的音片段,注意,不是“似的”音片段,而是完全一的音片段,些片段如果是要的片段好,但是些被james horner一再使用的音片段常是十分出色且眼的,因此只要一出,很逃迷或人的耳朵,自己抄自己作品的情使得他受人的攻,但horner有不同的,他要求一音家每一次都出完全不同的作品是不可能的,因每音家都有其善用的音言,即使是莫札特也不例外!不人然是不服力,因他批的不是horner不出完全不同的音,而是他在不同的作品中一再套用完全相同的音,而且大多的候,是意的重覆使用些音。
1994年的<真一世情>重振了迷james horner的信心,是一部充人色彩的代表作,是horner的作品中我人最喜的一部,作品中的多元素也展出1995年的<阿波十三>和<英雄本色>,部配同入了斯卡金像,但<真一世情>反而被斯卡忽略了,我想最大的原因是<真一世情>拍得太差了,情一情到令人不知所措,如果有james horner的音,我乎不知道要如何看完部影,而<阿波十三>的氛加上<英雄本色>的女情,於造了1997年<尼>的空前成功,也是在台有史以售量最“”的影原,截至2000年止,<尼>原的全球售量高二千八百以上,下影原售量的新,同horner也以部作品拿下最佳影音原著歌曲座金像。
他的音乐整体构思多适合大型管弦乐队来演奏,这一占似乎和他在英国所爱的正统教育与训练不无关联。 直到97年获奖前的10年间,参与制作的影片已近60部,吸引众多制作人和导演的无疑是他作品中显露出的丰富表现力和那迷人的柔情性。
第60届奥斯卡发奖仪式上,史诗巨片《宾虚》的全体主创人员曾频频起立,先后11次登台领奖。1998年3月下旬的第70届奥斯卡颁奖现场,《泰坦尼克号》的主题音乐先后11次响起,作曲家霍纳捧走最佳剧情片原作音乐奖金像奖之后再次上台,接过了本届奥斯卡最佳原创歌曲金像。2004年,霍纳凭借作品《尘雾家园》再次获得奥斯卡最佳电影配乐的提名。
音乐界评价霍纳的作品源于自我剽窃主义,但不管怎样,他所创作的情感主题音乐以其优雅的旋律、强烈的情节暗示都受到了公众及电影公司的认可。

(james horner) one of horner's truly outstanding efforts, the rocketeer is a bridge between his early, brass heavy scores and his more recent trend of the melodic string variety. the film is a whimsical account of a comic book hero in a pre-wwii era of adventure and innocence, with the very notion of a rocket propelled man bringing excitement to the comic and now the big screen. the film slacked off at the box office, but horner's score continues to soar. it's too serious of a score to be classified along with horner's great works for animated features, but it also has an undeniable touch of magic which reminds us that this is a disney fantasy film. it is this tinkling of magic which makes the rocketeer a score that can stand very well on its own.
very literally, the tinkling starts in the opening few seconds of the score. horner uses a veriety of percussion for the rocketeer --most of it light-natured-- and the very storybook personality of his music is encompassed by that percussion in the first track. with the tinkling of electronics and a free flowing piano solo, a perfect ambience is established. the "free flowing" part of the equation is no less important; beginning with the majestic takeoff sequence during the opening titles, horner's theme is fluid and aerodynamic, with drawn-out peaks and valleys meant to accentuate the thrill of flying. i remember sitting in the theatre during this opening sequence and being simply blown away by horner's music -- and although horner has done this on a few other occasions in the past, that sequence in the rocketeer remains as a vivid memory. while the score has been criticized for its excessive repetition of that title theme throughout the rest of the music, horner adequately shifts its performances between all four corners of the orchestra, often to a grand result. both the villains and the lead love interest have extended thematic development as well, leading to a remarkably well-rounded score. in the end, however, for many horner fans, the crashing action music is the highlight, and no better example of such fun can be heard than the first three minutes of the "jenny's rescue" track. the "trademark" horner finale, first introduced with a bang at the end of star trek ii, has perhaps its very best performance at the end of the rocketeer.
film score critics often lump the rocketeer in with willow and the land before time as simply adventuresome children's music of significant orchestral volume. but there is one major difference between the rocketeer and those other efforts. the rocketeer is a larger-than-life comic hero, and therefore falls under a different classification of fantasy. horner appropriately bloats every element of his score to create the needed level of comic-based fantasy; the brass play a little louder, the strings perform themes at a slower tempo, and the percussion section is absolutely exhausted off every metalic resource imaginable. together, every single part of the rocketeer seems slightly exaggerated, and that is where horner creates the magic that catapults this score into the "favorites of horner" list. there are a few drawbacks to the album, however. the two period songs, while very tastefully performed, break up the flow of horner's score. compared to the usual 70+ minutes of music typically heard on horner's albums, this one includes only about 50 minutes of score. the album was also very difficult to obtain, as it fell out of print shortly after its release, but an identical reissue has assuaged this problem. overall, it's exactly the type of score that drives horner critics nuts, and the type that any horner fan will simply adore.

many people think that the rocketeer contains one of the best themes james horner has ever written, and i am inclined to agree. the delicate piano theme that begins in the first few bars of the main title/takeoff, and then starts to pick up different sections of the orchestra as it goes on is undeniably beautiful, and sets the mood perfectly: it is purposefully upbeat and heroic at the same time, while still containing a certain innocence and boy's-own charm reflecting the 1930s setting. this main 'flying theme' reoccurs throughout the score, especially in the cues 'jenny's rescue', 'the zeppelin' and 'rocketeer to the rescue/end credits', which is without a doubt the best cue on the album, and there is also a secondary romantic theme written for jenny, the love interest in the film. some of the other cues, with the exception of 'the flying circus' which is a huge and exciting action piece featuring the main theme as well as a suite of original music, are typical underscore, with lots of meandering strings and occasional flashes of orchestral excitement until the main theme bursts through each time, giving the cue an instant and incredible lift. the two songs, both of which are period pieces sung by melora hardin are pretty good, but neither add nor detract from the overall feeling of the album. overall, this is one of james horner's better scores, and certainly one that any serious fan of his music will not want to miss

完成位的james horner原本一心想事的音作,且在音院中任教,在1978年他曾表一名spectral shimmers的交曲.但在一次偶然的中,他afi ( american film institute ) 的生影作品了一些影配,他才影曲正是自己最往的作模式,因的工作不可以足自己音的作,而且完成一作品,只要天,上就可以站在交前,知道自己的作品表演起是什子,james horner情急切的性格可一般,然他的性格也著一股院派音家的固,例如他曾“宣誓”不目做配,因他不easy money作,而且以交音作的主更是他人十分持的。
70年代末,詹姆斯写了一部音乐会作品“鬼火”,几经努力,终于由印地安纳波利斯交响乐队演出一次,但它是一次失败的演出,之后就很少有乐队肯演奏他的作品,这令詹姆斯愈加厌憎学术界,不久,他干脆离开学术界,他感慨:“我永远也不愿回到学术界了,太浪费时间,太没意思,对于一个作曲家来说,这里毫无前途可言,演出是没有希望的、做作的,好容易得到一个演出机会,你得点头哈腰、求爷爷告奶奶,你并没多少排练时间,实际演出时,听众也大多都在打瞌睡。”

然,如果早期的james horner完全有人格是不可能的,在他二十年的配作中,他的人色彩也一直在成型著,只是相於其他同影音家如danny elfman或hans zimmer等人,他的人格在早期比不那明,但甜美暖的旋律性一直是他的音最吸引人的特色。1985年他另一部十分座的科幻影片<魔>配,然期大行其道的,是john williams悍的科幻影音格,但由於<魔>本身就是馨取向,加上horner美切的主,也成功的出另一馨人,又不失浩瀚的音格,的格也延伸到1986年的<美鼠>中,其中的主曲“somewhere out there ”更是唱不,得一座葛美音,以及得金像最佳原著歌曲的提名,在同一年,horner也首度得金像最佳原著音的提名,作品是演詹姆斯.柯隆的<形集>,第一集的<形>出自jerry goldsmith之手,因此是horner<星大怒吼>之後,再度接手jerry goldsmith的作品,管horner的表堪出色,但基本上整音格,乎完全是承goldsmith首集的音作而,而且有大量的音只能算是<星大怒吼>的翻版,原水不高,不,是james horner首次得金像青的作品.
由於<美鼠>的成功,1988年horner再度安培林的新卡通<小恐>配,是我人非常喜的作品,一年horner另一部受到目的代表作是演朗.霍的作品<>,一部配精彩的呈了影片中瑰神秘的空,士,巫,公主,精,侏儒,怪魔法,都在horner的下出栩栩如生的形象,是我人horner在80年代最好的作品之一,horner的音不常人有力的印象,但部片子中意的士主是例外,而且了造故事中那充神奇美感的,horner大量使用一些音色上十分特殊的器,使得整音格在的交型中,又成功的揉合了新世音或民族音的情?#123;,的音格可以是james horner日後作品的一大特色。
1989年,james horner以<幻成真(田)>第二度入金像,同年的<光役>也得金球提名得一座葛美音,<光役>是james horner早期的作品中,材比的,james horner在音言上有不少突破,是horner很具代表性的作品。90年以後,james horner作品的量大幅增加,作情,科幻冒,悚馨,所不包,足其在影受到的器重其全方位的展,但他的作品水落差大,尤其量高的90年代初期,有令人印象十分深刻的佳作,加上他常在不同的影片中,放入完全“一模一”的音片段,注意,不是“似的”音片段,而是完全一的音片段,些片段如果是要的片段好,但是些被james horner一再使用的音片段常是十分出色且眼的,因此只要一出,很逃迷或人的耳朵,自己抄自己作品的情使得他受人的攻,但horner有不同的,他要求一音家每一次都出完全不同的作品是不可能的,因每音家都有其善用的音言,即使是莫札特也不例外!不人然是不服力,因他批的不是horner不出完全不同的音,而是他在不同的作品中一再套用完全相同的音,而且大多的候,是意的重覆使用些音。
1994年的<真一世情>重振了迷james horner的信心,是一部充人色彩的代表作,是horner的作品中我人最喜的一部,作品中的多元素也展出1995年的<阿波十三>和<英雄本色>,部配同入了斯卡金像,但<真一世情>反而被斯卡忽略了,我想最大的原因是<真一世情>拍得太差了,情一情到令人不知所措,如果有james horner的音,我乎不知道要如何看完部影,而<阿波十三>的氛加上<英雄本色>的女情,於造了1997年<尼>的空前成功,也是在台有史以售量最“”的影原,截至2000年止,<尼>原的全球售量高二千八百以上,下影原售量的新,同horner也以部作品拿下最佳影音原著歌曲座金像。
他的音乐整体构思多适合大型管弦乐队来演奏,这一占似乎和他在英国所爱的正统教育与训练不无关联。 直到97年获奖前的10年间,参与制作的影片已近60部,吸引众多制作人和导演的无疑是他作品中显露出的丰富表现力和那迷人的柔情性。
第60届奥斯卡发奖仪式上,史诗巨片《宾虚》的全体主创人员曾频频起立,先后11次登台领奖。1998年3月下旬的第70届奥斯卡颁奖现场,《泰坦尼克号》的主题音乐先后11次响起,作曲家霍纳捧走最佳剧情片原作音乐奖金像奖之后再次上台,接过了本届奥斯卡最佳原创歌曲金像。2004年,霍纳凭借作品《尘雾家园》再次获得奥斯卡最佳电影配乐的提名。
音乐界评价霍纳的作品源于自我剽窃主义,但不管怎样,他所创作的情感主题音乐以其优雅的旋律、强烈的情节暗示都受到了公众及电影公司的认可。

(james horner) one of horner's truly outstanding efforts, the rocketeer is a bridge between his early, brass heavy scores and his more recent trend of the melodic string variety. the film is a whimsical account of a comic book hero in a pre-wwii era of adventure and innocence, with the very notion of a rocket propelled man bringing excitement to the comic and now the big screen. the film slacked off at the box office, but horner's score continues to soar. it's too serious of a score to be classified along with horner's great works for animated features, but it also has an undeniable touch of magic which reminds us that this is a disney fantasy film. it is this tinkling of magic which makes the rocketeer a score that can stand very well on its own.
very literally, the tinkling starts in the opening few seconds of the score. horner uses a veriety of percussion for the rocketeer --most of it light-natured-- and the very storybook personality of his music is encompassed by that percussion in the first track. with the tinkling of electronics and a free flowing piano solo, a perfect ambience is established. the "free flowing" part of the equation is no less important; beginning with the majestic takeoff sequence during the opening titles, horner's theme is fluid and aerodynamic, with drawn-out peaks and valleys meant to accentuate the thrill of flying. i remember sitting in the theatre during this opening sequence and being simply blown away by horner's music -- and although horner has done this on a few other occasions in the past, that sequence in the rocketeer remains as a vivid memory. while the score has been criticized for its excessive repetition of that title theme throughout the rest of the music, horner adequately shifts its performances between all four corners of the orchestra, often to a grand result. both the villains and the lead love interest have extended thematic development as well, leading to a remarkably well-rounded score. in the end, however, for many horner fans, the crashing action music is the highlight, and no better example of such fun can be heard than the first three minutes of the "jenny's rescue" track. the "trademark" horner finale, first introduced with a bang at the end of star trek ii, has perhaps its very best performance at the end of the rocketeer.
film score critics often lump the rocketeer in with willow and the land before time as simply adventuresome children's music of significant orchestral volume. but there is one major difference between the rocketeer and those other efforts. the rocketeer is a larger-than-life comic hero, and therefore falls under a different classification of fantasy. horner appropriately bloats every element of his score to create the needed level of comic-based fantasy; the brass play a little louder, the strings perform themes at a slower tempo, and the percussion section is absolutely exhausted off every metalic resource imaginable. together, every single part of the rocketeer seems slightly exaggerated, and that is where horner creates the magic that catapults this score into the "favorites of horner" list. there are a few drawbacks to the album, however. the two period songs, while very tastefully performed, break up the flow of horner's score. compared to the usual 70+ minutes of music typically heard on horner's albums, this one includes only about 50 minutes of score. the album was also very difficult to obtain, as it fell out of print shortly after its release, but an identical reissue has assuaged this problem. overall, it's exactly the type of score that drives horner critics nuts, and the type that any horner fan will simply adore.

many people think that the rocketeer contains one of the best themes james horner has ever written, and i am inclined to agree. the delicate piano theme that begins in the first few bars of the main title/takeoff, and then starts to pick up different sections of the orchestra as it goes on is undeniably beautiful, and sets the mood perfectly: it is purposefully upbeat and heroic at the same time, while still containing a certain innocence and boy's-own charm reflecting the 1930s setting. this main 'flying theme' reoccurs throughout the score, especially in the cues 'jenny's rescue', 'the zeppelin' and 'rocketeer to the rescue/end credits', which is without a doubt the best cue on the album, and there is also a secondary romantic theme written for jenny, the love interest in the film. some of the other cues, with the exception of 'the flying circus' which is a huge and exciting action piece featuring the main theme as well as a suite of original music, are typical underscore, with lots of meandering strings and occasional flashes of orchestral excitement until the main theme bursts through each time, giving the cue an instant and incredible lift. the two songs, both of which are period pieces sung by melora hardin are pretty good, but neither add nor detract from the overall feeling of the album. overall, this is one of james horner's better scores, and certainly one that any serious fan of his music will not want to miss
