baptiste trotignon dessine les paysages de son monde intérieur. son jeu aux traits limpides et chantants traduit les pensées et les émotions d'un mélodiste qui cherche à donner de tendres couleurs à sa musique et partage ses intentions en trio. avec clovis nicolas à la contrebasse et tony rabeson à la batterie, le pianiste parvient à canaliser un trop-plein d'imagination, à tempérer un jeu fougueux et instinctif pour le rendre fluide, équilibré et souple. compositions originales et standards se donnent ici la main et témoignent d'une même vision artistique, celle d'une approche stylistique du clavier, une volonté de donner forme et contour à un langage qui tend à rester personnel. --pierre de chocqueuse

baptiste trotignon trio was new to me when i received a copy of "fluide." my interest was stimulated initially because i wanted to hear some current french jazz. in the weeks since, i have returned again and again to dig their excellent mix of standards such as "this is new" and "my shining hour" with several compositions of trotignon's. his "not for debby" is a lovely, meditative piece. accessible without being shallow, tortignon's keyboard can sound a bit like oscar peterson and at other times of brubeck. which isn't to say he doesn't have his own sound -- his is deft, strong, infectious playing that puts you right into the mood of an intimate jazz club. he and colvis nicolas (contrebasse) and tony rabeson (drums) swing easily with each other. it's all so pleasant that only after repeated listenings is it apparent that it takes considerable skill to make it sound that easy.
